As part of our expanding VAG product range, AIRTEC Motorsport is proud to launch our enlarged turbo inlet elbow upgrade for the MQB Evo engine (300-320ps), suitable for track or fast road use. Developed in-house at AIRTEC HQ in the UK, we’ve created a comprehensive solution to improving the car’s original pipework to allow more flow and capacity whilst reducing restriction and improving response. The comprehensive 8-piece kit features three pipes constructed from lightweight aluminium for improved strength so they will not fail with higher boost pressure as well as five Pro Hoses silicone joiners/hoses to make fitting as simplistic as possible. For the cold side from the intercooler to the throttle body, the original pipework begins at 60mm and tapers to 58mm in diameter, but our replacement features a 70mm internal diameter throughout until it meets the throttle body, increasing both flow and capacity. On the hot side coming from the turbo to the intercooler, the original pipework measures 60mm where as our kit features a 63mm internal diameter from start to finish with no restrictions. It also does away with the original resonator, which VW fits to reduce noise but removing it improves flow, capacity and noise. The kit requires no additional drilling or cutting to fit and comes complete with all the correct fixtures and fittings, as well as detailed instructions. A must have for any modified Mk8 Golf R models to help the improve the boost pipework’s flow and efficiency. TECHNICAL DATA As part of our expanding Mk4 Focus ST product range, AIRTEC Motorsport are proud to launch our secondary intercooler kit for fast road and/or track use. The challengeDue to the limited space available in the upper grille area due to the car’s intake system and ducting, it isn’t possible to fit a full-size front mount intercooler to fill the entire height of the grille without significant modification. Whilst we do offer an intercooler upgrade with a deeper core design (AIRTEC Motorsport Intercooler Upgrade for Focus ST Mk4), we still looked at other ways to improve cooling and reduce charge temperatures without having to cut or modify the car. The solutionDesigned and developed at AIRTEC HQ in the UK, our solution was to develop a secondary intercooler that mounts underneath the car behind the undertray and is fed fresh air from a duct. By adding a second intercooler in place of the pipework section after the turbo, we were able to significantly reduce the temperature of the air before it entered the primary front mount intercooler, allowing it to operate more efficiently whilst offering a huge increase in overall capacity to the whole system. Despite this huge improvement, the kit fits neatly behind the undertray and can be reverted back to standard with no issues. The comprehensive fitting kit includes Pro Hoses silicone pipes together with all the required fixtures and fittings, as well as step-by-step instructions. The testingUsing a Stage 2 tuned car, measuring intake temperatures during back-to back testing on the road over eight consecutive runs showed that with the secondary intercooler in place charge temperatures were reduced by up to 44 degrees, proving the set up worked effectively and efficiently. Freshly developed at AIRTEC HQ in the UK, we’re proud to launch our uprated front mount intercooler aimed at modified Renault Megane Mk4 RS owners who want the very highest level of cooling efficiency, power and performance for track or fast road use. The DesignFor the Mk4 Megane, Renault Sport engineers focused on creating an overall cooling package that would allow it to maintain running temperatures under harsh track conditions. As a result, the radiator took president and a small but deep intercooler was located off to the left-hand side. This presented issues in developing a larger intercooler, so our solution to increasing the size and performance within the confines of the limited space is based upon a stepped core design. This allowed an impressive 42% increase in overall capacity in comparison to the original intercooler, as well as an increase in frontal area to make the most of the air flow provided.
