In order to ensure there is no noticeable loss in performance during extended periods of hard driving, we have developed a larger, freer-flowing intercooler that is a direct replacement for the smaller and more restrictive OEM item. Our solution to increasing the intercooler’s size and performance within the confines of the limited space behind the bumper is based upon a core design that is wider, taller and deeper.  This offers a massive 158% increase in overall capacity in comparison to the original intercooler, as well as a substantial 30% increase in frontal area over standard, which allows it to make the most of the air flow provided. Importantly, we opted not to utilise a full height intercooler as this wouldn’t allow for an uprated oil cooler in the future, so looking at the bigger picture for a complete cooling package, we chose a core that was a slightly higher and wider, but twice as deep. This still allows a huge increase in performance whilst allowing for an uprated oil cooler too.  The inlet and outlet sizes of the intercooler also increases from 55mm in and 59mm out to 65mm in and 70mm out, an increase of nearly 20% to further improve flow and can be used with the original pipework or our AIRTEC Motorsport larger diameter cold side boost pipe. The pipework also replaces the original O-ringed flanges with larger silicone hoses to improve flow and increase internal area.
