Manufactured from high-quality T304 stainless steel and featuring mandrel-bent pipework for optimum gas flow, these expertly TIG-welded systems are the perfect addition to any cherished Cooper S. Many months of testing was carried out to ensure the system not only delivered the performance gains required (which can be unleashed with further tuning), but also to create a thrilling soundtrack - sporty and aggressive when you want it to be, with the crackle, pops and bangs amplified. Precision TIG-welded from T304 stainless steel, this new system is available with or without integrated valves. The valves are specially developed to integrate with the factory Driving Modes and open or close depending on the mode selected, so you can keep sound levels to a minimum or unleash the engine's full potential, depending on your mood. Regardless of what mode is selected, unwanted drone is thoroughly eliminated. In addition to this, vehicles fitted with the optional DSG gearbox will emit an enhanced sporty tone on upshifts. The GPF-Back system, as the name suggests, retains the factory Gasoline Particulate Filter, but still manages to effectively enhance the exhaust note of the vehicle's EA888 2.0 TSI engine. Matt Thomas, Sales Manager at Cobra Sport says "The Golf R MK7.5 exhaust system has completed the R&D program, and we have now collated the performance results. Having tested the resonated cat back exhaust system on the rolling road we saw an impressive +7.4bhp increase. The Cobra Sport research and development team quickly made the decision to base the new performance cat back exhaust systems for the BMW M140i on 3" (76.2mm) T304 stainless steel pipework. This mandrel bent pipework allows the engine to breathe and contributes to the aim for the largest natural performance improvements. The new cat back exhausts offer a significant weight advantage with the Cobra Sport system weighing only 16.32kg giving a 21% decrease from the OEM weight of 20.75kg. The sound of the new Cobra Sport exhausts boast vastly improved tonal characteristics with the non resonated cat back exhaust offering a deeper more aggressive sound with an overall increase of +4.6dB to 86.8dB on the static 4,000rpm sound test. Within the cabin the redefined sound remains comfortable registering 81.6dB under full load. The new systems for the M140i are based around a cat back configuration with the option for either a resonated or louder non resonated centre section. These cat back systems can be matched with a choice of replacement front pipe options in the form of either a sports cat or a de-cat pipe to create the most dynamic sound track and performance potential. Testing of the standard M140i revealed power figures of 327 whp and 367 lbft. Working in conjunction with one of our tuning partners AET Motorsport, we installed the Cobra Sport turbo back system (with de-cat) on the AET Motorsport development car and ran further power testing. With the Cobra Exhaust installed, the M140i recorded 349.2 whp and 389.9 lb-ft, an increase of 22 whp and 23 lb-ft with a fantastic sound track to match. Taking this one step further, AET installed Burger Motorsport JB4 and the EWG loom and ran dyno power runs on map 1,2 and 5. The best results were seen to be on Map 5 where the BMW M140i produced 423 whp and 453 lb-ft this means an overall increase of 96 whp and 86 lb-ft over the stock vehicle. The OE system has been replaced with mandrel bent 3"/76.2mm bore T304 stainless steel pipework. The exhaust is manufactured in Sheffield utilising superior TIG welding techniques with beautifully bent pipework in place of the usual rear box to smooth gas flow, improve sound and maximise possible performance gains. This Corsa E 1.0 Turbo performance exhaust is made in 2.5"/63.5mm pipework and fits from the catalytic converter section backwards (Cat-back) this exhaust replaces the centre and rear sections. This sports exhaust is part of the Cobra Sport Venom range and is extremely loud. This exhaust is sold for non road use only and will exceed all legal noise regulations. This exhaust however, is also available as a resonated version (including centre and rear silencer) which is a quieter option. All relevant fittings and gaskets are supplied (does not include front gasket). Press Release The Cobra Sport research and development team quickly made the decision to base the new performance exhaust systems on 2.5" (63.5mm) T304 stainless steel mandrel bent pipework. The system has been designed to run directly from the flange of the catalyst section running the full length of the vehicle finishing in a choice of tailpipe options. The new systems for the Corsa E 1.0 Turbo are based around a cat back configuration with the option for either a resonated cat back or louder Venom exhaust system. Sound testing revealed the two systems to have similar decibel reading for the external tests recording 96db and 97db on the static 4,000 rpm test. However, the resonated centre significantly reduced the interior cabin decibel reading recording 4.6db less at 79db than the Venom equivalent when cruising at motorway speeds. The outstanding improvements in sound quality are complemented by a significant weight advantage with the Cobra Sport system with increased bore size weighing only 11.86kg giving a 16% decrease from the OEM weight of 14.12kg. Cobra Sport Sales Manager Matt Thomas commented "We're very excited about the release of the system for the sporty 1 litre turbo edition of the Corsa E having had previously success with the Corsa E VXR and 1.4 Turbo edition. The pick of the systems for me is the resonated cat back exhaust which has been designed to improve the sound with an increase in volume whilst still having a perfectly balanced pitch and tone. The resonated section removes any drone from the vehicle interior at cruising speeds meaning you can have the best of both worlds with a dramatically improved exhaust sound whilst keeping this subtle enough for every day use of the vehicle." Cobra Sport have managed to improve the styling of the already sporty Corsa by finishing off the exhaust systems with a choice of bold highly polished stainless steel tailpipe options including 3.5" and 4" inward rolled baffled tips, a 3.5" outward rolled tip and a statement 4.5" x 3.5" oval slash cut tailpipe which we anticipate to be the most popular choice.
