Developed in-house at AIRTEC HQ in the UK, we’ve created a comprehensive solution to improving the original air intake system to allow more flow whilst maintaining low intake temperatures, therefore improving response, sound and aesthetics within the engine bay. Having previously designed a number of enclosed induction kits for other performance models, we were keen to develop an intake package for the G8x series to offer significant improvements over standard and compared to other kits on the market. We began with a 3D scan of the engine bay so we could use a CAD program to calculate the most efficient use of space with a perfect fitment. As a result, we chose to utilise the original BMW air box bases with enlarged, two-piece laser cut lids. This increases the capacity of the air boxes to allow the fitment of 80mm cone air filters whilst retaining the original front air feed that ensures a constant flow of fresh air is forced into the air box. The lids feature vents to encourage the flow of air by allowing it to pass by the filter and then exit. Our perfectionist design engineer team also ensured the two air box lids locate perfectly parallel to the strut brace for a balanced aesthetic within the engine bay. The right-hand intake pipe retains the original fittings but features an uninterrupted 80mm diameter throughout to ensure the least restriction all the way to the turbo, whilst the connectors are CNC-machined and allow the use of the original O-rings and tension clips. Using the original air box bases also allows the original rubber mountings to be retained, which reduces vibration. The result is increased power, improved throttle response, heightened induction noise and a more pleasing look to the engine bay. The kit is a direct replacement that requires no additional drilling or cutting to fit and comes complete with all the correct fixtures and fittings, as well as detailed installation instructions. As part of our expanding BMW product range, AIRTEC Motorsport is proud to launch our enlarged turbo inlet upgrade for the S55 engine fitted with hybrid turbos. A direct replacement part that offers increases in performance and response, the enlarged turbo inlets feature a freer-flowing design with an increased internal diameter, which is essential when fitting hybrid turbos. How it works  The original elbows from the air boxes are made from plastic and gradually taper down from 80mm to just 54mm and then 41mm as they enter the turbos. Whilst this is adequate for standard turbo cars, when fitting hybrid turbos, which consume more air, the original elbows can cause an unnecessary restriction that hampers flow when pushing for more power. Our AIRTEC Motorsport direct replacement inlets have been designed in-house to feature pipework that very gently tapers to 64mm in diameter as they reach the turbo inlet, therefore removing the stepped restriction and allowing the maximum amount of internal flow, with increases of nearly 35% compared to standard. The bottle neck of the 2.5 TFSI engine is the turbo elbow, which reduces down in diameter massively as it passes down behind the engine to the turbo. Our approach to improving this focused on making the very most of the available space and as a result, our in-house design engineer team were able to create an elbow design that is unrivalled on the market for it’s increase in diameter and improvement in flow. Featuring a 4″/102mm inlet, the elbow gently tapers down with no aggressive step to ensure optimum flow from start to finish with a substantially increased volume over standard. As a result, the AIRTEC Motorsport enlarged elbow measures a huge 8,171mm² at its widest cross-sectional measurement, compared to the original pipe’s 5,026mm² at its widest point, therefore offering a huge increase of 62.5%. On average, it’s 30% larger internally compared to the standard elbow, offering a huge increase in capacity.  This improves throttle response and reduces restriction, which is key for those chasing increased power from their cars. A direct replacement part, the elbow is made from high-quality cast aluminium and has been designed to work with other our own AIRTEC Motorsport induction it (similar sized induction kits should also fit). Developed in-house at AIRTEC HQ in the UK, we’ve created a comprehensive solution to improving the car’s original air intake system to allow more flow whilst maintaining low intake temperatures, improving response, as well as sound and aesthetics within the engine bay. Having previously designed a number of enclosed induction kits for other performance models, we were keen to develop an extensive intake package for the RS3 8Y model to offer significant improvements. Featuring a huge, free-flowing cotton air filter that is housed inside a four-piece enclosure, the comprehensive kit also includes a larger intake pipe that measures 102mm in diameter; an increase of 28% in comparison to the original. The larger capacity pipe also features a reduced, smoother angle to further improve internal flow.
