Oil catch cans are vital preventative additions to ensure performance of Direct Injection engines doesn’t deteriorate over time. AIRTEC Motorsport’s solution to developing a catch can kit specifically for the Golf R model utilises the available space to integrate seamlessly within the engine bay. It features a high-quality, laser cut bracket finished in powder coated black, which allows the catch can to attach neatly in place and also locates the new washer fluid tank filler. The can itself features an internal micron filter, baffle and dipstick and detaches to allow easy maintenance. It comes with a comprehensive fitting kit that includes all fixtures and fittings, as well as a detailed installation guide.   Why do I need a catch can?The original oil breather set up can cause issues with carbon build-up inside the engine’s intake system over time. It forms an oily sludge that covers parts of the intake and inlet valves, which reduces air flow and therefore performance. Once the build-up has formed, it’s a costly process to clean, so it makes sense to take preventative measures in order to avoid carbon build-up forming. Developed in-house at AIRTEC HQ in the UK, we’ve created a comprehensive solution to improving the car’s oil cooling ability for modified Mk8 ST owners who struggle to maintain steady oil temperatures on track, or during fast road use. With vast experience in developing uprated oil cooler packages for a variety of modified track and road cars, the challenge with this kit was to integrate a large capacity, external oil cooler neatly behind the front bumper. However, the Mk8 Fiesta has very limited available space directly behind the open grille area, which meant we developed an innovative solution that mounts the oil cooler in front of the right-hand side arch liner and is fed a constant flow of cool air by an air feed duct that’s included in the kit. The package also includes a AIRTEC Motorsport oil cooler, bespoke laser-cut and powder coated AIRTEC brackets, high quality braided hose lines with Aerotec fittings, a thermostat-controlled sandwich plate and all fixtures and fittings, including instructions, for a simple bolt-on installation. Developed at AIRTEC HQ in the UK, we’re proud to launch our billet PCV baffle plate aimed at 2.0 Duratec engine owners who wish to fit an external oil catch can or improve their engine’s PCV set up with a simple, bolt on modification for track or fast road use. This billet baffle plate replaces the car’s original Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) plate and valve set up. Machined from billet aluminium, the plate allows the simple fitment of an external oil catch can via one, or both, of the M22x1.5 take-offs that have been machined into the plate. The kit also includes a one-way valve and adapter boss and the plate is finished in anodised black with an engraved AIRTEC Motorsport logo. Internally, the plate features extra baffles machined into the design in order to increase the surface area the engine crankcase vapour passes over, which decreases the amount of oil that is able to enter the intake. This helps to reduce carbon deposit build-up from passing back into the engine and forming an oily sludge on all parts of the intake system, which reduces air flow and therefore performance over time.
