As the tuners started to modify and increase the performance of the 225 engine, Forge continued to improve the intercooler design to allow for better and more efficient cooling. Three different types of air cores were used in the testing and development of this product. The intercooler was designed on our Solid Works CAD system and flow tested to allow for maximum cooling with minimum pressure loss. With this extra intercooler capacity, remapping the vehicle would bring further performance gains. The intercooler is a direct fit, and no modification or trimming of the bumper is required.     The much loved 1.8T engine has proved itself as being not only being very capable in producing high power figures but in being very reliable at the same time. The key to this reliability is the lubrication system, which can quickly become overwhelmed when cars are driven quickly - or on track - causing oil starvation. Under extreme acceleration, braking or cornering, the oil can momentarily run out of the sump under centrifugal force, causing a temporary starvation through the oil-ways, putting critical bearings and bores at risk of damage.For those with bottomless pockets, a ‘dry sump’ system is the ideal preventative solution. But for those in the real world, our neatly engineered solution, based around a brand new OE-spec sump pan is the perfect alternative. Carefully configured baffles and Viton oil control valves ensure that the lubricant can easily move around the engine, but retains a minimum sump capacity, even under the most severe of ‘g’ forces. The relatively soft Viton plates react far quicker than equivalent metal flaps - which are often used on lesser alternatives - and have been designed to withstand the rigours of the high temperatures of oil and its contaminants.Our 1.8T Baffled Sump (FMBSMP18T) is a truly effective upgrade. This allows charge air to be recirculated around the turbo charger from the boost side back to the intake side. This recirculation path is opened and closed by means of an electrical connection from the engine management, to a solenoid that is mounted on the turbocharger housing. As you accelerate, the turbo charger vanes are spinning and boost pressure is increased, literally blowing into the engine cylinders. Then when you change gear, you take you foot off the accelerator momentarily, select the next gear, and accelerate again. As you take your foot off the accelerator the throttle valve to the engine closes. The problem here is that during this process the turbo is still spinning and the boost pressure that it is producing has no where to go. (This is a bit like putting you hand over a hair dryer so the air cannot get out) What happens at this point is the turbo starts to stall, the spinning vanes slow down (incurring alot of stress) and the boost pressure drops. When you open the throttle valve again by pushing down on the accelerator (demanding more power) the turbo has lost its momentum, boost pressure and there is a pause or a "Lag" before the engine is producing the required power once again. To combat this loss of power and stress on the turbo, a recirculation or diverter valve is used. On the Mini, when the throttle valve closes, the engine management opens the recirculation route around the turbo. This gives the charge air an alternative route and allows the turbocharger to keep spinning so that when you accelerate again there is no "lag" or waiting period. This system works well and is adopted by nearly all vehicle manufacturers on turbo charged petrol engine applications. The only downside to this system is that a turbo chargers produce heat. (The hot air that leaves a turbo is cooled by passing it through an intercooler before it enters the engine. The cooler the air the more power is produced). By recirculating the hot air back into the intake side of a turbo the temperatures increase. This is where the Blow Off or Dump valve plays its part. By expelling the charge air to atmosphere rather than recirculating it, you do not increase the intake air temperature but you do allow the turbo to keep spinning. The side effect which is unacceptable to most vehicle manufacturers is the noise of the valve expelling the air. By fitting the FMDVMCS between the existing solenoid and the turbo housing (this involves removing only 3 bolts) the air is re-directed to atmosphere rather than recirculated. It should be noted that the engine management also uses this valve to decrease engine power when necessary. An example of this is by the (DSC) Dynamic Stability Control system.     This Blow Off valve is for the Citroen DS3 1.6 Turbo engines, that have the electronically controlled bypass valves. It is recommended for any vehicle where the boost pressure has been increased by an ECU software upgrade and for unmodified vehicles operating in warmer climates, as a solution to the many failures that have occurred. The problem is that diaphragm retaining ring is made from very thin plastic that goes brittle with heat cycles, and eventually fails. Unfortunately the failure doesn’t always result in a check engine light as the valve can still be blown open by the boost pressure, so you may not be aware that you are losing power due to this.  This prevents the diaphragm from sealing This particular failure can also result in the valve falling apart upon removal from the turbo, and in extreme cases, we have heard of bits of plastic entering the turbo resulting in serious damage. Our alternative is a fully engineered solution offering both significantly improved reliability .Our valve is piston based , with no diaphragm to fail, and of all aluminium construction, it replaces the original unit with a pressure/vacuum operated piston valve that still also retains the desirable OEM ECU control over valve actuation.     Forge Motorsport is proud to release the latest version of our very popular solenoid driven valve for the 2013-on VAG 1.8 TSI engine (US codes CPKA and CPRA) and 2.0 TSI engine (Euro code CNTA, CHHA, CHHB, CJXB and CJXC;US codes CPLA and CPPA)  including Golf MK7 R. This valve is a full replacement atmospheric blow-off valve (i.e. noisy) that integrates seamlessly with the OEM electronics and results in no detriment in performance, and absolutely NO fault codes or check engine lights, which isn’t something that can be said of our competition! Like our full replacement recirculating valve option, this valve is fully engineered to remedy the failure issues experienced with the OEM solenoid valves when their diaphragm may rupture which results in a boost leak. The later revision OEM valves have a longer lift but ultimately the plastic brittles and in extreme circumstances, parts of the plastic can break off. Our valve uses full billet alloy construction with a piston based internal design that provides for significantly improved reliability over the OEM valves along with lightning fast response.
