Our 2-Piece rotors combine the advantages of weight savings and rapid heat dissipation to provide a rotor superior to stock while preventing warping and extending component life. The 17% reduction of unsprung weight by (2.65 lbs per rotor) improves handling characteristics under all situations. This reduction in rotational inertia allows for quicker acceleration, decreased braking distances, and more responsive handling. Features include: Aluminum hats: To save weight, each rotor ring is bolted to a lightweight aluminum hat made from high quality 6061 aluminum, and hard anodized with an attractive matte black finish that is both durable and corrosion resistant. Gray cast iron rings: Long known for its wear resistance and stable friction characteristics, FC-30 cast iron is favored for brake rotors due to its ability to absorb and dissipate large amounts of heat. 2-Piece construction: Conventional rotors are made from 1 solid block of cast iron, causing them to be typically quite heavy and not able to quickly dissipate heat. ECS rotor hats are bolted directly to the rotor ring for massive weight savings and better ability to dissipate braking temperatures.  Heat treated: Heat treating further reduces the tendency for rotor cracking by reducing internal rotor stresses. Directionally veined: Conventional R32/Golf R rotors are straight-veined, and rely on an inefficient centrifuge-like effect to evacuate hot air from within the rotor. ECS 2-Piece rotors feature curved, directional veins that accelerate air away from the rotor at a higher velocity, leading to consistent, rapid cooling. Drilled and slotted: 2-Piece rotors are cross drilled to promote cross ventilation for improved cooling as well as slotted to clean brake pads, carry away water and brake dust and to reduce rotor face temperatures to minimize brake pad gassing. Cleaner and cooler brake pads result in faster, more consistent stopping. Drilled holes are chamfered while slots are machined with a ball end mill - both to prevent cracking that may be present on improperly machined rotors. Overall weight savings: This particular ECS 2-Piece rotor weighs only 12.75 lbs compared to a stock R32/Golf R one piece rotor at 15.40 lbs. Lighter rotors reduce unsprung weight and rotational mass to improve vehicle acceleration, braking and suspension performance. However, it is nearly impossible to find a black washer fluid reservoir cap to tie it all together --- until now. ECS is now offering the black washer cap you have always wanted!  This cap is not just for looks either. It keeps dirt and debris from entering the washer fluid pump and lines and clogging them up, and keeps the washer fluid from escaping and being wasted. Due to the temperatures reached in the engine bay, the cap can sometimes become brittle and crack, or even just fade out. The magnet attracts and holds minute abrasive and ferrous metal particles, preventing their circulation through lubrication systems. Metal particles can appear in lubricating or hydraulic systems as a result of the following conditions: The constant flaking effect due to normal wear of moving parts Particles not removed by flushing operations after boring or machining Chipping due to sub-surface casting flaws Minute component breakdown caused by stress usage A combination of these factors can account for the presence of metal particles, which can cause excessive wear to vital components unless they are removed. Product Details Replace your fragile plastic oil filter housing with an attractive, durable, 6061-T6 aluminum housing from ECS Tuning. Far stronger than the original, the ECS housing requires no special tools to open the drain plug during an oil change; all you'll need is a common 8 mm Allen wrench. For added convenience, the housing plug sealing ring is identical to the one on the crankcase drain plug, making it easy to source and install new seals for a leak-free job. Place your car securely on a lift, jack stands, or ramps Pop the hood, remove your engine oil cap from the engine bay Drain the oil from the filter housing and the oil drain plug Use a 36mm socket to unscrew the housing from the engine (Schwaben socket – ES240945). Remove the old filter, and install a new one, making sure to transfer the filter retainer to the ECS housing Replace the rubber housing oil ring with the new o-ring contained in the filter kit. Screw the housing on to the engine, and torque to 18 foot pounds. Reinstall the drain plug with new copper ring, and tighten to 22 foot pounds. Add a VW approved 502 / 505 engine oil.
