As part of our expanding Audi product range, AIRTEC Motorsport is proud to launch our RS6 C8 intercooler upgrades suitable for track or fast road use. In order to ensure there is no noticeable loss in performance during extended periods of hard driving, we have developed larger capacity, freer-flowing intercoolers to replace the smaller and more restrictive OEM items. The original twin intercoolers are mounted between the bumper and inner arch liners and utilise designated air guides on both the front and back to help direct air to and from the intercooler effectively. Wishing to keep these in place, we opted to concentrate on creating a new core design that was the same width and height but deeper to help increase cooling ability. The result are direct replacement intercoolers that reuse all the original hoses, mounting points and air guides for simplicity but offer a huge 21% increase in overall capacity in comparison to the OEM intercoolers. TECHNICAL DATA As part of our expanding Audi/VW and Seat product ranges, AIRTEC Motorsport are proud to launch our uprated auxiliary radiators for DSG or engine coolant suitable for track or fast road use. The IssueDuring extended periods of track or fast road use, particularly for cars with increased power, both the DSG transmission’s oil and the engine’s coolant can reach temperatures that are too high to offer sufficient cooling protection properties. As a result, there is risk of damaging the transmission and/or engine, so the car’s ECU will automatically limit the engine’s torque output and extend the gearbox’s shift times, which makes it feel notably less responsive and eager. It can even cause permanent damage, if it persistently overheats. The SolutionAIRTEC Motorsport’s solution to improving the DSG’s and engine’s running temperatures is to increase the size, capacity and ability of the original auxiliary radiators mounted behind either side of the bumper. By utilising the available space, we developed a replacement radiator that’s wider and thicker. This means capacity is increased by a huge 67% over standard, whilst frontal area is also increased  to help sufficiently cool the extra capacity. The core also features a quadruple pass design, which forces coolant entering it to pass up and down the core four times before it exits, increasing the time the coolant passes through the radiator to further decrease temperatures. The result is a radiator that is able to keep cooler for longer, therefore helping the car run at its optimum for longer. Despite the increases, the radiators fit neatly behind the bumper and requires only minor trimming of the original air duct to fit, otherwise using the OEM mounts and the original coolant connectors. To protect the larger radiator core from road debris, there is also a (removable) stone guard. Finished in a high-quality powder-coated black finish, the comprehensive fitting kit includes all fixtures and a detailed instruction fitting guide. Following an extensive development process, AIRTEC Motorsport are proud to launch our auxiliary radiator and turbo cooler kits aimed at modified Yaris GR owners who require the ultimate cooling package to maintain steady running temperatures on track or fast road use. The challengeWhen modifying the Yaris GR to increase power and torque at more extreme levels, an unavoidable by product is the additional heat level that’s transferred to the car’s cooling system. During hard use this can become a substantial issue, as we found on our own 400bhp+ Yaris GR demo car whilst testing on track. After sustained periods of hard use (similar to a round of racing), coolant temperatures would eventually reach 102 degrees, which was enough to trigger the aftermarket ECU’s safety features, putting the car into limp mode. Similarly, oil temperatures reached 123 degrees. We needed to address the car’s entire cooling system if we were going continue to modify and track our Yaris. The solutionDeveloped in-house at AIRTEC HQ in the UK we designed a series of new products to address the cooling issues when pushed to the limit. This additional radiator fits neatly behind the fog light (requires removal) and utilises laser-cut aluminium ducting to force cold air through the radiator. To create a flow path and further improve cooling, air then exits via the inner arch liner (requires cutting). A pre-cut mesh shield is supplied for both the front and rear to protect the radiator from road debris damage. The radiator is plumbed directly into the existing oil/water heat exchanger system to improve the car’s overall capacity and cooling ability, allowing it to maintain a steady temperature for longer during hard use. This can fit with any of our intercooler or oil cooler combinations to create the ultimate cooling package. The comprehensive kit also features laser-cut and powder-coated brackets, high-quality Pro Hoses silicone lines as well as all fixtures and fittings, and detailed fitting instructions. The testingWe went back to the track fitted with both our turbo and auxiliary radiators, as well as our larger Stage 3 oil cooler fitted, and were able to see a 10 degree peak drop from the coolant temperature, reducing to a much safer constant 92 degrees whilst oil temperature reached a maximum of 94 degrees thanks to a mix of the larger oil cooler allowing more surface area to cool the oil and the turbo cooler being able to reject more heat for the car’s original oil/water heat exchanger. This larger increase improves internal flow and allows fitment to our Stage 3 intercooler with 60mm inlet, making it ideal for cars fitted with hybrid turbos. Hot SideFrom the intercooler’s 60mm outlet side, the pipework tapers back down to meet the throttle body’s 49.5mm size, maintaining a 53mm minimum as it reaches the new cast aluminium throttle body elbow. In doing so, it offers up to a 39% increase in internal diameter during the most restrictive part of the OEM pipework (38mm) just before the throttle body elbow. This increased overall internal volume and improved design works to reduce restriction and improve flow from the turbo and to the inlet, providing an increase in power and response. We’re proud to launch our front mount chargecooler radiator upgrade aimed at BMW B58 models for fast road or track use. The IssueAs the performance of chargecooled-engines depends on the temperature of the coolant inside the system, it’s very important to ensure it runs as cool as possible for as long as possible. As the standard system can struggle to maintain temperature, especially on a tuned application, the keys to ensuring a consistently lower running temperature are to increase the capacity of the system and its ability to cool it. The SolutionAIRTEC Motorsport’s solution to improving the original set up with the limited space available behind the bumper to make it any wider or taller was to instead extend it forwards by introducing a core that’s nearly 60mm thicker, at 90mm in depth. This allowed the use of a triple pass core design to allow the coolant to pass through the radiator three times before it exits, with capacity increased to a huge 23.3 litres, compared to the original 7.7 litres; a gain of 203%. Despite the huge cooling capacity increase that allows the chargecooler system to run cooler for longer, the radiator fits neatly behind the bumper and requires no modifications to fit, using the OEM mounts and the original coolant connectors. Importantly, to protect the larger core in its vulnerable position at the front of the car, there is also a protective stone guard fitted in place to deflect road debris that can cause damage, as OEM radiators have been known to fail when stones or similar flick up and permanently damage the core.
