Press Release Cobra Sport have expanded on their range of Mini performance exhausts having completed development on the facelift Mini Cooper S F56 LCI. Keen to build on an existing first class reputation in the performance Mini tuning scene, Cobra Sport have launched a unique 3" (76.2mm) bore GPF-Back exhaust system for the new F56 LCI model matching an enhanced driving experience with a dynamically improved sound track. The Cobra Sport research and development team quickly made the decision to base the new performance exhaust systems on 3" (76.2mm) T304 stainless steel pipework. Initially available in GPF-Back exhaust configuration, full cat-back and de-cat/sports cat turbo back exhaust upgrades have been prepared in preparation for suitable GPF delete ECU remap software to become available at our tuning partners. During the 4,000 rpm static test the GPF back exhaust system increased sound levels to 91.6dB on the static 4,000rpm track test. The Cobra Sport systems also offer an impressive weight saving over the standard system weighing in at only 14.39kg. The F56 LCI has an aggressive stance on the road. Cobra Sport have managed to improve the looks, finishing off the rear of the Mini with a more aggressive and balanced look. A choice of highly polished stainless steel tailpipes are available including 3.5" (88.9mm) inward rolled baffled and inverted tips. For those looking to improve the styling further, Cobra Sport offer a Ceramic Coated Black exhaust tip and stunning Carbon Fibre branded tailpipes. Press Release There is no stopping Cobra Sport this year, as they add another development exhaust to their ever expanding range of stainless steel sports and performance exhaust upgrades. This time it was the turn of the Mini Cooper S Coupe to be given the Cobra Sport treatment, this car benefits from a turbo charged 1.6 litre engine, already providing agile, entertaining handling but the Cobra Sport upgrade makes driving an even more relishing experience. The twin 3.5" (88.9mm) polished round or inverted draga style tailpipes sit proudly against the cars striking silhouette instantly providing extra appeal, while increases in power and torque provide extra excitement from under the bonnet. As always, Cobra Sport's technicians carefully assessed the decibel levels for the OE exhaust and engineered the upgrade exhaust so that sound levels would not impede day to day drivability of the car, especially as it has a reputation for being on the noisy side during motorway cruising and they certainly have managed this perfectly, with only a barely audible 2dB increase from the OE version on the stationary test. One of the striking improvements of the Cobra Sport system was the 22% weight saving achieved by swapping to the lightweight stainless steel exhaust from the cumbersome OE system, this certainly is a statistic not to be overlooked. As with all Cobra Sport exhaust systems, all pipework is formed using precision CNC mandrel bending which provides for a smoother gas flow, free flowing silencers increase performance, whilst all exhaust components are assembled by hand at their UK factory using expert TIG welding techniques. Non-magnetic grade 304 stainless steel is the material of choice for the best stainless exhausts, which I also Cobra Sport's specified steel choice enabling the customer to have complete peace of mind with a lifetime warranty. Whether it's the lively Cooper S or the range-topping JCW - both cars deliver the goods, with potent engines and engaging handling. For those looking to maximise the potential of their performance MINI, Cobra Sport has developed a high-flow sports catalyst to fit both PPF and non-PPF models. This free-flowing 3in (76.2mm) item delivers a significant increase in gas flow, which in turn opens the door to gains in both power and torque. During testing (with sports catalyst and resonated cat-back exhaust, no additional hardware and conservative Stage 1 map), power increased from 215hp to 291hp and torque from 338Nm to 413Nm - with 300+hp easily achievable. This far less-restrictive setup provides an ideal foundation for further tuning. As well as the performance gains, the car benefits from increased volume with a more pronounced overrun (pops and bangs). A deeper, more aggressive tone further adds to the sporting intent of the Cooper S and JCW. A full de-cat pipe setup is also available, which delivers even greater increases in power, torque and sound - for those who demand the ultimate in performance (for track use only). Press Release Power testing with the Cobra Sport large bore de-cat downpipe fitted revealed a +5bhp increase in power over standard, the downpipe has however been designed for fitment in conjunction with an engine remap. With the software applied, the development car returned a huge increase in power and torque completely changing the power dynamics of the car. Max power increased by a +60bhp to 425bhp. Torque increased by a colossal +137 lb-ft up to a staggering 504 lb-ft at 3160rpm, the power increases create a dramatic change in driver experience after the remap was applied. Both Cobra Sport's Technical and Development teams were involved in the planning and preparation that went into designing the new downpipe. Cobra Sport have been able to reduce the weight of the part by 54% with the de-cat downpipe weighing in at just 3.45kg. Manufactured from aircraft grade 304 Stainless Steel, advanced manufacturing techniques and superior TIG welding procedures produce a superlative finish. The new systems improve and deepen the exhaust tone whilst staying within a similar decibel range for comfort within the cabin. For those looking for the ultimate upgrade for the new Civic Type R we have developed sports cat and de-cat front sections to enable us to offer a full turbo back exhaust system taking the Type R to the next level in terms of both sound and possible power output. Cobra Sport were keen to improve on the standard soundtrack. During the design stages we were keen to put this right straight away by enriching the sound produced by the 2.0 turbo Honda VTEC engine creating a vibrant and pitch perfect exhaust tone the match the strong styling of the Civic. The aggressive styling of the Civic Type R has been complemented beautifully by the 4" twin tailpipes available in a highly polished stainless steel finish. The bore size of the mandrel bent stainless steel pipework has been increased to 3" (76.3mm) to significantly increase flow rate and produce a deeper, more vibrant sound. Rolling road testing of the completed resonated cat back system revealed a +6.2 increase in bhp along with an impressive +26.7 lb-ft of torque taking the Civic Type R to the next level. This Ford Focus ST TDCi 5 Door Estate performance exhausts is made in 3"/76.19mm pipework and fits from the centre section backwards replacing the rear section. Press Release The 2015 Ford Focus ST TDCI Estate was always on the agenda to lend itself to another of Cobra Sports exhaust upgrades, due to the massive success of the ST250 marques. The Cobra Sport development team recommended 3" bore pipework in order to gain the best results with regards to both power and sound. The final development is available as a rear box replacement which enhanced the TDCI engine sound by only 2dB at three quarter revs, but allowed a deeper overall tone. As expected there was an exceptional weight advantage, with the Cobra Sport exhaust being a massive 54% lighter than the original equipment exhaust. The new Focus ST TDCI exhaust has two tailpipe design options, one being the custom designed twin 4.5" x 3" slash cut oval and the other the twin 4" inward rolled slash-cut tailpipe. Both designs are available in either highly polished T304 Stainless finish and the TP38 option in ceramic coated matt black. This Focus RS (MK3) 2.3L EcoBoost 350PS performance exhaust is made in 3"/76.2mm pipework and fits from the turbo backwards (Turbo back system) this exhausts replace the front pipe, standard catalyst, centre and rear sections. This sports exhaust is part of the Cobra Sport Venom range and is extremely loud. This exhaust is sold for non road use only and will exceed all legal noise regulations. The sports catalyst version replaces a factory emissions device and is not EC homologated. This may not meet current emission laws for road use in your territory. The new Cobra Sport systems produce a much deeper exhaust tone than standard which becomes highly aggressive under load to produce a pitch perfect soundtrack along with the trademark gargles, crackles and pops expected from the Focus RS. The Cobra Sport systems deliver a significant weight saving over standard. Testing of the non resonated turbo back system with de-cat resulted in a 13% reduction in weight over the OE system's 24.3kg. On offer are a full range of configuration options including a cat-back exhaust system along with de-cat & sports cat front sections to form a full turbo back replacement. Taking development for the RS a step further, Cobra Sport have created a Venom exhaust system (with resonated centre) which produces a completely unique sound track. This system matched with the OE standard catalyst recorded the highest sound levels in our tests registering 101.5db (+22.8db) on the 4,000rpm static test. The Cobra Sport development team have produced both valved and non valved sports exhausts for the Focus RS. The valved exhaust retains the use of O/E exhaust valves, so when switching drive modes (e.g. Eco to Race mode) the exhaust tone will continue to change from quieter to louder tones as before. The non-valved option removes the O/E exhaust valves altogether, and thus removes the drivers option of having various exhaust tones at the press of a button, however the non-valved Cobra Sport exhaust has been designed with this in mind.
