Close monitoring of the GPF system has been an essential step in finding the limitations and tuning potential of the newer DNWA engines. POWER GRAPHS ADDITIONAL FEATURES COLD START PROTECTION For engine oil to work effectively and lubricate your engine it needs time to warm up. When you first start your car, the cold oil is at its thickest, producing higher oil pressure when pumped around the engine putting extra pressure on oil seals. As the engine temperature increases, so do oil temperature. This thins the oil, enabling it to run more freely and better lubricate the moving parts of your engine. Cold Start Display gives an advised maximum RPM limit as the oil reaches certain temperature points until over 65°C. Please note this isn't a physical limit within the software. TEMPERATURE PROTECTION Revo Temperature Protection is an additional safety feature that reduces overall load as the oil temperature passes a set limit. Exhaust gas temperatures (EGT) are also monitored, adapting the operating conditions (Air Fuel Ratio) to ensure they stay within safe parameters. If EGT's reach a set upper limit, then power is automatically reduced until the engine returns to a safe operating temperature. Additional changes to the calibration, including the after-run pump, to greater help control temperatures. GAUGE RECONFIGURATION The gauges on the virtual cockpit instrument cluster have been reconfigured to represent the increased performance and calibrated for the specific performance modes. Revo AUDI RS3 (8V) | DISC UPGRADE
AUDI RS3 BRAKE DISC UPGRADE The Audi RS3 comes with a fairly substantial 8-pot brake setup straight from the factory. Whilst the stock calliper works very well the same can’t be said for the discs or the factory specification pads that seem to perform best at lower temperatures or very light road use. The factory 370mm 'wavy' discs certainly look the part but the design flaw is that both discs are identical; when fitted, the cooling vanes in the right-hand disc face the wrong direction and do not offer any cooling benefit. The excessive heat this generates combined with the factory pad compound causes big issues with braking efficiency and longevity of the disc and pads. The Revo disc upgrade is designed to directly replace the stock discs and comes complete and ready to fit with left and right-handed, directional 380mm two-piece floating discs. Saving 1.2 Kg each side the disc not only weighs less than the OEM part but also features much larger, more efficient cooling veins individually designed for each side of the vehicle to ensure even braking performance, pad wear and cooling capability. This is a premium upgrade that should have come from the factory. As the Revo discs dissipate heat much more efficiently the factory pad compound works much better in real-world conditions, only when you’re using the vehicle on the track would we recommend considering a different pad altogether. Managing this heat efficiently is extremely important to avoid it transferring to the pads, calliper and fluid. The OEM RS3 discs are manufactured as a single part, pumping air in different directions on each side of the vehicle. This causes varying levels of cooling efficiency and temperatures leading to judder and brake fade. REVO DISCS Revo discs are manufactured by Alcon and utilise over thirty years of motorsport expertise in their design and manufacture. Internal vanes are used to draw air through the centre of the disc outward, allowing the heat to transfer as it passes. The rotation of the discs and vanes play an important role in brake cooling as it acts as a pump to move air and unlike the OEM brake discs, the Revo upgrade consists of a right and left-hand disc to optimise cooling and ensure consistent stopping power for your vehicle. TWO-PIECE FLOATING DESIGN Utilising a two-piece floating design allows the disc and hat to expand radially and axially as they absorb heat generated from use, avoiding the most common cause of warping and cracking seen in single-piece rotors. Due to the efficiency of this design, Revo discs last considerably longer than factory discs. The friction surface features crescent groves that increase bite and remove debris from the pad surface giving the perfect balance between brake feel and longevity while minimizing the pedal pulsations normally associated with straight-slotted rotors or cracking issues common with cross-drilled rotors. Revo MQB CHASSIS | LOWER TORQUE MOUNT KIT
REVO TORQUE MOUNT KIT More power results in more movement during aggressive acceleration. The stock torque mount is designed to offer comfort over performance and does not manage engine movement effectively. Designed to significantly reduce the loss of torque and drastically improve traction and acceleration, the Revo Torque mount has little to no effect on vibration and harshness levels (NVH) felt in the cabin. Although some improvements were noted during testing of an insert style upgrade designed to stiffen the standard mount, there was a significant increase in NVH felt in the cabin. This was dramatically reduced when completely replaced with the Revo polyurethane torque mount and also improved acceleration. FITTING KIT A Revo installation tool is included to make removal of the OEM mount and installation of the replacement as quick and easy as possible. This allows the OEM part to be removed and the Revo part to be installed without removing the sub-frame, reducing installation time and the need for axle re-alignment. OEM COMFORT, AFTERMARKET PERFORMANCE To achieve the optimal balance between performance and comfort, several different durometer bushings were tested on a Volkswagen Golf Mk7 GTI. Bushings were systematically tested at precise increments at each mount location. A 3-axis accelerometer was used to quantify the NVH levels being transmitted into the cabin, as well as the acceleration of the drivetrain during loading. Accelerometer data gave us a way to compare mount combinations against each other with a low data error percentage and to quantify driver comfort as well as engine movement. Supplemental data was taken from VCDS to ensure each test was standardised over a given throttle, RPM and speed range. The graph shows the amount of vibration measured whilst driving through the gears. CARBON INTAKE PIPE The newly designed carbon fibre pipe smoothly tapers from the airbox to the turbo, removing the corrugated plastic section of stock pipe and provides the smoothest possible airflow. The 20% size increase and thermal properties of the carbon keep intake temps lower, allowing the 2.5 TFSI engine with Revo ECU performance software to produce more power. PROPANEL FILTER Revo Panel Filters use multi-layered foam technology to trap dust and dirt while maintaining flow efficiency over time. Using foam increases the filter's surface area and is washable, compared to standard paper and cotton filters which trap dust on the surface and become less efficient the more they are used, choking the engine and reducing performance. AIRBOX SILICONE HOSE No detail has been overlooked when reducing restrictions within the stock airflow system. The stock corrugated plastic hose is replaced with a smooth silicone one, reducing air turbulence. A three-ply construction with the addition of fluorine for added protection, increases strength to prevent collapsing under pressure. Internal steps flush fit against the stock air box and the turbo inlet, creating a smooth transition between components ensuring the smoothest airflow. SILICONE REDUCER To ensure smooth airflow from the carbon intake to the turbo inlet, a tapered 4 ply silicone hose has been designed with includes a full fluoroline inner to protect against oil vapour. The silicone has perfectly matched internal steps to reduce any unwanted turbulence through the transition of parts, the steps are match to the outer diameter of the carbon pipe, and the internal diameter of the turbo inlet. PERFORMANCE Testing was carried out with consistent conditions on both the OEM intake and the Revo Carbon Series Air Intake System on a 2018 Audi TTRS running Revo Performance ECU Software. While dyno testing for performance gains, VCDS software was used to log airflow with a full AEM logging suit used to monitor temperatures. The Revo Carbon Series Intake increased vehicle performance, especially over 3600rpm with 16whp and 31NM gains, highlighting the performance benefits over the stock components. AIRFLOW The only way to fully test the maximum airflow and restriction was to test both the stock and Revo intake on a controlled Flow test bed. The testing was carried out using a 76mm orifice plate to simulate the size of the stock turbo inlet. The Carbon Series Revo system had far less restriction than the OE unit, at 480CFM the stock unit was seeing 452mmwg restriction while the Revo unit only saw 371mmwg some 21% less restrictive, even at 540CFM the Revo intake only saw 467mmwg restriction and still had more headroom. REVO INTERCOOLER AUDI RS3 8V2 The Revo Intercooler utilises unique design features to lower intake air temperatures, minimise pressure drop and allow the engine to produce impressive power and torque with Revo Software. The unique end tank profile promotes internal laminar flow by decreasing turbulence and increasing airspeed into the bar and plate core. This enhances charge air cooling giving you access to more power throughout the rev range. The limitations of the stock intercooler were apparent throughout testing. The stock part consistently struggled to manage charge air temperatures, especially on vehicles with performance software. The Revo Intercooler has been designed to improve on every restrictive element of the stock cooler, enhancing cooling efficiency by lowering intake air temperatures by up to 38ºC vs. the Stock intercooler, allowing you to drive harder, for longer. Designed from the ground up, the Revo Intercooler has a 38% larger core volume than the OEM part and offers perfect fitment by Utilising the volume of unused engine bay space behind the OEM (US and ROW) crash bar. INCREASED FRONTAL AREA Due to the custom-designed end tanks, the frontal area of the intercooler has been increased by a massive 53%. Offering the best balance between increased performance and acceptable part clearance, whilst also minimising pressure drop. END TANK DESIGN The Revo end tank geometry maintains the largest possible cross-sectional flow area to and from the core. With a cast interior surface finish, the Revo end tanks allow air to flow freely without obstructions. The design has been balanced between core width and optimal tank profile design. End tanks play an important part in maintaining pressure and work in harmony with the core to promote airflow, the Revo end tanks are designed to offer the optimal balance between both of these key features. BAR & PLATE Designed with a bar and plate core to maximise the efficiency of heat transfer, the pressure drop is also controlled as the air meets less resistance compared to that of a tube and fin alternative. The Revo Intercooler also features carefully specified fin geometry to maximise cooling properties while minimising flow restriction. The ambient core side utilises louvred fins to slow ambient airflow which improves heat transfer, while the charge core side features an offset internal fin design to balance surface area and air resistance to minimise pressure drop. INTERCOOLER PIPE UPGRADE Supplied with an upgraded aluminium charge and silicone throttle pipes. The increased diameter pipework ensures the maximum performance by increasing system volume by over 27%. The internal diameter of each silicone is precisely matched to the outer diameter of the ribbed inlet and outlet connections along with a unique Flush Fit design, allowing a smooth transition between components. RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT All Revo products are designed in-house using the latest 3D printing technology, CAD and CFD software. Every product is rigorously tested utilising an in-house Hub dyno and Revo data acquisition software. The Revo intercooler minimises turbulence while maximising heat transfer, promoting cooler air temperatures and low-pressure drop. This helps retains power and torque throughout the rev range as highlighted during controlled Dyno testing. The Revo Intercooler was tested in-house to compare the performance against that of the stock Intercooler. First tested on a vehicle running the OEM Intercooler with Revo software, a Revo carbon series air intake system and Milltek downpipe exhaust, the Revo Intercooler and pipes were then installed and tested in the same controlled environment to highlight the benefits of enhanced cooling. PERFORMANCE DATA Showing the last of four consecutive dyno runs, the efficiency of the Revo Intercooler over the OEM RS3 intercooler is highlighted. With peak gains of +17 HP (hubs) & +43NM Torque, along with increased performance throughout the entire rev range. The stock intercooler struggles to effectively function in comparison to the Revo Intercooler which remained consistent throughout. INLET TEMPERATURE This is a metric used to confirm that testing on the RS3 8v.2 2.5TFSI Intercooler. This is used to show that the air temperatures going into the intercooler were similar for each test, confirming that outlet temperatures shown in the following graphs are purely down to differences in intercooler design/construction. As can be seen, the “dwell” between testing runs is higher with the OE setup vs. Revo. While this initially seems less than desirable for comparable data, this temperature difference is actually down to the thermal mass differences between setups; indicating that the Revo kit can absorb much larger amounts of heat more efficiently than the OE setup, yet the Revo intercooler produced the lower outlet temps proving the cooling efficiency. OUTLET TEMPERATURE This is the main performance metric to illustrate that the Revo intercooler far exceeds the stock unit. A strong indication that the Revo intercooler is extremely resistant to heat soak and could likely continue for ten more sequential dyno runs before any intake temperature-related issues arose. The graph illustrates the increased cooling performance of the Revo intercooler vs RS3 intercooler over all four runs. The Revo Intercooler provided a massive 38.2°C max and 18.23°C average intake air temperature reduction across the six back to back full gear dyno runs. INTERCOOLER PRESSURE DROP GRAPH Pressure drop is an important factor when it comes to choosing an Intercooler. The Revo solution features custom cast end tanks to evenly distribute air over the core. REVO RF0 WHEEL LIGHTWEIGHT. STRONG. FLOW FORMED. OVERVIEW The RF0 wheel is a flow-formed alloy that's lightweight yet exceptionally strong, designed in-house at Revo HQ in the UK. Flow forming is one of the most advanced manufacturing technologies to enter the wheel industry. Flow Forming Technology involves the application of pressure to the inner barrel of the wheel while spinning and after it has been cast. This process stretches and compresses the aluminium, which increases tensile strength. In this respect, the process shares similar properties to those found in the forging process. The final product is lighter, stronger, has increased elongation, and much greater shock resistance as well as an increased load capacity over regular cast wheels. Whilst the RF0 wheel shares a similar design concept to our previous generation RV0, the more advanced manufacturing process offered through flow forming allows for more definition in the design, particularly noticeable in the spokes and rim edge fillets. By reducing the weight of your wheels 'unsprung weight' your suspension starts to have a much easier time. Each bump can be controlled more quickly and easily. This helps keep your tyre in contact with the road for longer, which is obviously great news for car control and braking. Reducing the 'rotational mass has its benefits too. DYNO TESTING Dyno testing with Stage 1 software proved a 21WHP gain @4300rpm and over 11WHP at peak RPM with a consistent and strong gain through the rev range. Torque is also dramatically increased with 28NM gain over stock at peak. Increased airflow also means that the turbo can spool up quicker, delivering power and torque earlier in the rev-range. This is further backed up airflow testing which shows an increase of 23kg/h over the stock pipe as the car starts to spool up, this improved flow continues through to peak where it still made an extra 12kg/h over the stock part.
