We were lucky to get one of the first MK8R’s to enter the UK and used this opportunity to put months of development and testing into this new induction kit. Our MK8 Golf R has been put through countless hours of track day work and hill climbs, alongside the usual daily and spirited driving. This kit has been designed from the ground up, using 3D Scanning, FEA Simulation data in SolidWorks CAD, 3D printed development, and numerous dyno sessions to truly unlock the power. Simulation testing played a large part in the design process to help maximise the airflow. This included a tear drop cavity around the bonnet release mechanism to ensure that the airflow stays fast and laminar on its way to the filter element. The 3D printed prototypes helped with comparing our simulation testing to real world driving conditions. This is a valuable comparison that is used in the top tiers of motorsport, now being brought to your vehicle. During the final prototypes testing we found that the Forge induction kit with stock turbo inlet produced gains on average of 5.5BHP. However, when paired with our Turbo Inlet Adaptor FMTIA5/9 this is where the stock EA888 engine saw impressive gains, increasing power up to 16BHP at 6500RPM with a significant average power increase from 4500RPM to the 6700RPM Rev limit of 10BHP, while the drivability and the punch from extra torque increases can be felt on the road as between 4000RPM to the rev limit an average gain of 20NM is achieved. It’s worth remembering that this is with a stock ECU and no tune, so we would expect to see mapped cars returning even greater yields of power. This induction kit runs the full width of the slam panel, incorporating an elegant lip which neatly slides under the slam panel to ensure that all the cold air from the front of the vehicle flows through into the inlet tract with no detriment from the engines heat. During testing we found this to make a significant increase to airflow and a reduction to inlet air temperatures (IAT’s). Temperature and volume of air supplied to your vehicles engine that is compressed by the turbo charger has a better effect on performance when cool as this is to provide the engine with more oxygen (denser air), thus improving the combustion in each cylinder. In addition, by regulating and reducing the air temperature, it also increases the reliability of the engine by keeping the AFRs (Air Fuel Ratios) in each cylinder at a safe level; which in turn, can increase an engines power due to the air being cooler. A bigger bang is then created within the cylinder (providing the correct amount of fuel is added) - this equates to an increase in BHP and torque. It’s worth noting that this induction kit offers a massive amount of air to the EA888 engine, which is a must for anyone looking to push the performance of their car when tuning to stage 1, stage 2, and beyond. This has allowed us to create FMINDK44, the second induction kit we have available for the EA888 gen 3 and gen 4 platform (alongside our carbon fibre variant, FMINDK40). This kit features either a Forge Motorsport Ram Air high flow, pleated, synthetic nanofiber filtration filter or a Pipercross foam filter. Both are manufactured for optimum size and fit to the available space giving superior flow and filtration with enhanced breathing for the 2.0 turbo charged engine. It also features a larger surface area than the stock filter and many competitors’ alternatives. The intake diameter has been carefully tuned to provide exactly the correct quantity of air for consistent power gains throughout the rev range and minimising the chance of low-end torque loss; the pipework is specifically designed to feed the turbo without interruption. The result of this is a gain of induction acoustics under acceleration, which improves the driving experience and adds a bit more drama to the EA888 engine. With the use of SolidWorks, our CAD engineers have designed the heat shroud to fit round all the contours of the engine bay. This shroud combined with our specially formulated thermal coatings protects the intake from radiant heat while also guiding the cold air from the OE cold air ducting to the filter and housing. The majority of our dyno testing was done on our VW Golf R MK8 EA888 Gen 4, as such you may find slight variations in gains when fitted to other vehicles sharing this engine. During the final prototypes testing we found that the induction kit with stock turbo inlet produced gains on average of 3.5BHP. However, when paired with our turbo inlet adaptor FMTIA5 (RHD), FMTIA6, or FMTIA9 (LHD), or FMINLMK7, this is where the stock EA888 gen4 engine saw impressive gains, increasing power up to 13BHP at 6500RPM with a significant average power increase from 4500RPM to the 6700RPM Rev limit of 8BHP; while the drivability and the punch from extra torque increases can be felt on the road at between 4000RPM to the rev limit an average gain of 17NM is achieved. By ensuring that the intake heat shield is open on this side it also means that vehicles being tuned to stage 2/3+ have a reduced risk of being restricted with them pulling in a greater quantity of air.     Racingline Filter Oil & Cleaning Kit The Racingline Oil and Cleaner Kit will help you keep your filter in peak condition at all times and ensure that the complex triple-layer foam continues to deliver its power and filtration benefits for many years. Instructions are provided for cleaning and maintenance. It’s a simple process, but please take time to read through, or ensure that your technician reads them, before you begin. We would suggest that you keep these notes with your car for future maintenance/owners. We recommend that the filter element is cleaned and reoiled every 10,000 miles/16,000 km, and/or a visual inspection at least every 12 months. This is a simple procedure, and will ensure that your filter continues to deliver the power improvements over a standard car. If your car is regularly used in a dry/dusty environment, we advise that you clean and re-oil your filter more regularly If you don’t clean your filter at the above intervals, no loss of filtration will occur, and your engine will still be fully protected. However, the performance advantages from the additional air flow of a clean filter will be lost. You will also shorten the life of the filter element. REPLACEMENT FILTER Like all the other filters on your car, it’s worth replacing the air filter element itself periodically. Rather than cleaning and re-oiling, lots of customers prefer to simply replace their filter element for what is a relatively low cost. We recommend replacement after 2 years for optimum performance. Of course, the filter will last for a longer period of time with correct maintenance and inspection for condition of foam as laid out below.     Racingline Cup Edition Intake System VWR12G7CUP The VWR Cold-Air Intake System kit delivers cold fresh air from outside the engine bay straight to your engine via a large-diameter free-flowing intake pipe. The intake uses an oversize domed High-Flow TriFoam™ air filter designed to provide increased surface area and dust capacity. This extra surface area provides even more airflow with lower restriction, to ensure that the largest volumes of the coolest possible air is available to the engine at all times. This maximizes efficiency and improves driveability and torque throughout the rev range – turbocharger spool dropped nearly 500 RPMs, reducing turbo lag and creating faster turbo response. Racingline Open Cone Intake The intake uses a fully formed black powder-coated aluminum shield which separates the high flow triple-layer filter from the hot air of the engine bay.  The shield extends not only up to the underside of the hood/bonnet, but also underneath the filter unit ensuring the best possible separation of cold, fresh air from the heated air of the rest of the under-bonnet area. As a race-bred intake system, you can hear the rich induction noise as soon as you first accelerate hard.  With the increased airflow from this system, you will also not miss the sound of the diverter valve opening when you lift between gears. A simple fitment, the ultra-thin-wall VWR High-Flow Turbo 90 Inlet is a large diameter, free flowing intake elbow, delicately CNC machined from aluminium billet to replace the small and restrictive plastic factory inlet.  The factory inlet forces the airflow to taper right down to pass through a tight and restrictive bend - in other words, terrible for flow.  The RacingLine Turbo 90 is the thinnest-wall construction on the market for highest flow. Twin O-rings ensure the perfect seal. Some of our rivals' less carefully-machined, or even thick cast versions rob valuable airflow. Put simply, without it, you’re wasting much of the potential of your high-flow intake system without fitting the Turbo 90. An essential upgrade!
