By retaining the factory ECU control and recirculating the vented air, the DV+ is a purely performance-orientated product. GET BETTER PERFORMANCE, FASTER BOOST RECOVERY AND DON’T PAY FOR WHAT YOU DON’T NEED! GFB’s DV+ solution couldn’t be simpler - keep what works and replace what doesn’t. GFB expands the DV+ range with a direct-fit performance diverter solution for GM vehicles with the 1.0T, 1.4T and 2.0 LTG engine. The solenoid coil itself from the factory-fitted diverter is great so why replace it? The weak point is the valve mechanism itself. GFB’s DV+ solves this problem by replacing the valve parts with an anodised billet aluminum housing, fitted with a brass piston machined to exacting tolerances.As an additional benefit, the solenoid in the DV+ assembly no longer directly drives the movement of the piston, instead controlling the movement of the piston with boost pressure. This is known as “pilot operation”, which greatly increases the actuation forces within the valve, improving operation speed and reliability. Plus, the piston can now move progressively in response to how much boost pressure it needs to vent, instead of only fully open or closed like the factory diverter. The solenoid coil itself from the factory-fitted valve is great- the ECU opens it faster than any pneumatic valve so why replace it? The weak point however, is the valve mechanism itself. GFB’s DV+ solves this problem by replacing the valve parts with an anodised billet aluminium housing, fitted with a brass piston machined to exacting tolerances. Other manufacturers’ products involve replacing the entire system with a traditional pneumatic valve, or include a solenoid valve with the diverter. These approaches add unnecessary cost and additional parts (in some cases requiring long vacuum hose runs, mounting brackets etc). All these additional items result in a product that is slower, less responsive, more expensive, and takes longer to install. The DV+ Story: Better Performance – More Reliable Many late-model European cars use ECU controlled solenoid-type diverter valves. This is a good concept because the valve can react very quickly and it only opens when it needs to. However, there are some problems with these valves; The diaphragms are weak and known to rupture, especially if boost has been increased. Once this happens, the valve will no longer hold boost pressure. The plastic lip that surrounds the diaphragm is very thin and pieces can break off, potentially ending up going through the turbo. Additionally, the solenoid on the OE diverter is directly connected to the valve mechanism, which is not ideal because neither it nor the return spring are strong enough to open and close the valve reliably at high boost. With problems like this, you can see why other aftermarket manufacturers assume the best solution is to replace the factory diverter entirely, or change it to a purely pneumatic system. Unfortunately though, whilst their replacement kits might be stronger than the factory diverter, their slower response speed and lower flow do not justify the extra cost and complexity – more of a compromise than a solution. GFB has taken a different approach to deliver a complete solution that solves existing problems and improves performance, without compromise or a hefty price tag. The DV+ addresses the factory valve problems with a very simple and elegant solution. Keeping the factory solenoid, the DV+ retains all the benefits of the stock system. Also replacing the valve parts with indestructible metal components ensures strength and reliability, no matter how much boost you run. That’s not all; rather than using the solenoid to directly actuate the valve, we’ve introduced a unique “pilot-actuation” system. The latest addition to the VTA range is a blow-off valve designed specifically for late-model Audi, VW, Skoda, and SEAT 1.2 and 1.4TSI models. These engines come from the factory with no diverter valve of any kind, which results in turbo compressor surge every time the throttle is closed after boosting. The intake is acoustically tuned to suppress the fluttering sound of compressor surge, but it does not eliminate the effect of pressure pulses – that is what diverter and blow-off valves were originally designed to do. The GFB VTA re-introduces a blow-off valve into the 1.2/1.4 TSI system, which eliminates compressor surge to protect the turbo, and delivers the signature blow-off “whoosh” when lifting off the throttle. Because these engines do not run a MAF sensor, there is no chance of adverse drivability or fuelling issues. The VTA clips directly into the turbo’s charge piping, replacing a short plastic joiner with a billet CNC machined section onto which the VTA mounts. The kit also includes a boost tee and vacuum hose that clips onto one of the manifold vacuum ports to source a vacuum signal for the VTA valve. This boost tee has a second port that can be used to connect a boost gauge (not included), or plugged off if not required. The whole kit can be fitted in minutes with no tools. VTA or DV+?Depends if you want sound or not. Both valves are constructed with the same quality materials and valve mechanism, and both offer the same performance and reliability benefits. However, the VTA vents to atmosphere for sound whilst the DV+ recirculates the air to keep it quiet. Why choose a VTA over a “BOV spacer”?“BOV spacers” are cheap and they make sound. But that’s it. All the inherent performance and reliability issues you get with the factory diverter valve remain, because a spacer doesn’t change the diverter valve in any way. The VTA improves the operation of the diverter valve for sound AND performance. Why choose a VTA over a kit that includes a solenoid?Because there’s no performance benefit to replacing the factory solenoid, only a much higher price! If a VTA with the factory solenoid can open in a couple of hundredths of a second, why pay more than you need to? VTA BLOW-OFF VALVES ARE CONSTRUCTED WITH THE SAME MATERIALS AND VALVE MECHANISM AS THE DV+, AND THEY OFFER THE EXACT SAME PERFORMANCE AND BOOST HOLDING. HOWEVER, VENTING TO ATMOSPHERE GIVES IT THE SIGNATURE BLOW-OFF SOUND, WHILST THE DV+ KEEPS THINGS QUIET. COMPETITORS' PRODUCTS FOR THE SAME VEHICLES THAT MAKE SOUND (I.E. BOV "SPACERS") TYPICALLY RETAIN THE PERFORMANCE DEFICIENCIES OF THE FACTORY DIVERTER VALVE, DELETE THE ECU CONTROL, OR REQUIRE FREQUENT MAINTENANCE AND REBUILDS. THE VTA ON THE OTHER HAND IS THE COMPLETE PACKAGE - PERFORMANCE, FIT, RELIABILITY, AND SOUND! Like the DV+, GFB’s VTA range of BOVs utilise GFB’s proven TMS Technology to ensure rapid boost recovery on gearshift and optimum throttle response, as well as superior boost holding. However, where the DV+ and the VTA range differ is what they do with the vented air. VTA BOVs vent to atmosphere to make the signature turbo blow-off sound, where the DV+ recirculates the air to keep it quiet. The VTA shares the successful DV+ design philosophy: “Keep what works, replace what doesn’t” This means we retain ECU control and the solenoid from the factory diverter to ensure the fastest possible response time, without the added and unnecessary cost of replacing the solenoid like some brands do. The weak part of the factory diverter has always been the plastic valve mechanism – this is the part we replace. The VTA features CNC machined billet components that last a lifetime, and we also change the valve operation method for better performance. The factory diverter valve can only operate in two states – open, or closed. When it opens fully at low boost, or during a partial throttle lift mid-corner, it causes increased lag and a noticeably non-linear boost transition. GFB pioneered the use of “pilot operation” in the DV+, which works by repurposing the factory solenoid to control the pressure behind the piston rather than the piston itself. This allows the solenoid stroke to be much shorter, speeding up the response time and increasing the actuation force. More importantly, it allows the piston to open and close progressively in response to the amount of boost pressure present, which smooths boost transitions and reduces the lag caused by the factory diverter valve.
